Welcome to Ballard Summer Camps 2018

We are delighted to offer a range of courses for children from Year R to Year 11.

Courses are open to all local and visiting children. All courses take place in the school buildings and 32 acres of grounds at Ballard School and are fully supervised by qualified staff (including during break times).

Childcare Vouchers
Those wishing to pay with childcare vouchers (or using Bright Horizons) are required to use the online booking system and pay for the courses upfront. Such payments will be refunded at the end of the activities when school is in receipt of funds from the childcare provider concerned.

Dance Summer Blaze (Y3-5)

Morning session on: 23 July
Come and have fun in this exciting morning of dance for boys and girls! You will learn and explore new dance moves and work with each other to create a dance on the theme of The Greatest Showman.

Dance Summer Blaze (Y6-8)

Afternoon session on: 23 July
Begin with a fun and energetic contemporary dance class , then learn, explore and perform through creative tasks developing your skills on the theme of The Greatest Showman.

Nature Quest (YR-6)

Full-day sessions on: 23 & 24 July
Enjoy the challenge of the great outdoors in the Ballard grounds with loads of fun activities and adventures run by Mr Winch.

Art (Y4-9)

Full-day sessions on: 23 & 24 July
Enjoy fun filled days creatively painting and crafting. We will use a mix of media; texture printing, mono-prints, stencilling and 3-D modelling. Come and have a go at all of these different techniques.

Multi-Sports (Y5-9)

Morning & Afternoon sessions on:
23, 24, 25, 26 & 27 July
A chance to try various sports and pursuits from badminton, basketball, striking and fielding games to dodgeball, football and table-tennis. There will also be swimming in the heated outdoor pool.

Robotics (Y6-9)

Morning sessions on: 24 & 25 July
This will be an opportunity with Mr Blake to try out some robot building using Lego Mindstorms and as well as other computer programming, including projects using the BBC MicroBit.

Bushcraft (Y3-5) & (Y6-9)

This programme offers an exciting opportunity to immerse themselves into the world of Bushcraft. With a focus on basic skills including shelter, fire and tools, this introductory programme is designed to be fun yet challenging, with a content aimed to encourage motivation and teamwork, and to muster enthusiasm for outdoor adventures.

History Club (Y5-9)

Morning session on: 25 July
Join Mrs Clark for an interactive session to discover the history of the New Forest, its people and how it was shaped from Roman times to the present day.

Animation (Y4-9)

Full-day session on: 26 July
In the Animation Workshop, children will work in small groups using a powerful piece of animation software called Zu3D to create a short film using the stop-motion technique. They will be able to add visual and sound effects, dialogue and music. If time allows, we will also incorporate green screen effects using Mr Bellars' purpose-built stages.

Fun with Fabrics (Y5-11)

Full-day sessions on: 26 & 27 July
Fun with Fabrics will show you how to make all sorts of items using hand and machine including cushions, mini quilts, wall hangings, juggling cubes and bags.

Fencing (Y2-4) & (Y5-8)

These sessions will consist of teaching the basics of footwork, attach, defence, point scoring and refereeing. This is followed by introducing some games to practice the techniques finishing with a mini-tournament.

Week 2 : Mon 30 July to Fri 3 August

Bikeability Levels 1&2 (Y5-7)

Full-day session on: 30 July
All pupils are to complete the level 1 course, and then pupils will move on to the Level 2 course as appropriate. The Level 1 course starts with playground activities, familiarising the pupils with their bikes and developing control. The Level 2 course will involve the pupils going out onto local quiet roads. All students will get a badge and a certificate that represents the level(s) that they achieve.

Bikeability Levels 1&2 (Y7-9)

Full-day session on: 31 July
After completing the Level 1 course, pupils will then take the Level 2 course, going out onto local quiet roads to develop their understanding and confidence of the correct use of the road. All students will get a badge and a certificate that represents the level that they achieve.

Sailing (Y7-8) & (Y9-11)

Y7-8 Full-day session on: 31 July
Spend a day on a 10 metre yacht cruising the Solent with an experienced crew.  Learn the basics of seamanship and enjoy the pleasure of sailing in the sheltered waters of the Solent.  No previous experience necessary and safety equipment provided.

Netball (Y5-9)

Morning sessions on:
30 & 31 July  1, 2 & 3 August

Come along and develop your netball skills. This is great preparation for the new season as well as increasing your match practice.

Multi-Sports (Y5-9)

Hockey (Y5-9)

Aimed at beginners, intermediates and proficient players, this is a great pre-season introduction and will help to develop skills and have fun with hockey.

Volleyball (Y5-9)

Try the biggest growing sport in the New Forest. Volleyball at Ballard is open to all from beginners to intermediates.

Gymnastics (YR-9)

A fantastic fun session for children to hone their gymnastics, increase their physical confidence and learn new skills on a selection of stations including beam, vault and trampette. All activities are supervised by specialist PE teachers.

KNEX (Y5-7)

Full-day session on: 1 August
KNEX is a wonderfully versatile and educational building system which stimulates curiosity and imagination.  You will discover innovative ways of building the product of your dreams as well as having a lot of fun.

Jewellery Making (Y5-10)

Full-day sessions on: 2 & 3 August
A course offering Fimo clay and wire projects. Create your own beautiful pieces with a jewellery maker.

Junk Modelling (Y5-7)

Full-day session on: 2 August
A chance to let your imagination run wild, while designing structures in the Design Technology Lab. ‘The true sign of intelligence is not knowledge but imagination.’ Albert Einstein.

Design and Make (Y6-8)

Full-day session on: 3 August
Under the supervision and direction of the Ballard DT Team, design your own creation and then see it come to life in your hands.

Music Masters Beginner
(Y3-5)

Morning sessions on: 28, 29, 30 & 31 August
Brush up on your theory and get ahead. These sessions will focus on the ABRSM syllabus grades 1-3 but will also include some practical sessions.

Music Masters Intermediate (Y6-10)

Full-day sessions on: 28-31 August
A four-day course aimed at instrumentalists and vocalists who want to improve their skills across a wide range of musical styles and specialisms. Suitable for pupils interested in taking GCSE Music, and those already studying.

Sessions will be a mixture of theoretical work and learning through practical application and may include activities such as;  aural training, music production / recording skills, performance practise, how to write a pop song and improvisation.

Drama (Y3-7)

Morning session on: 30 August
Do you have a budding star at home or someone who would love to come and have some fun with drama. The session will start with some drama games and then focus on some improvisation working towards a short performance at the end.

Drama (Y8-11)

Have you got the drama bug and love working with others.  If so, come and join us for an afternoon of drama. The session will start with some drama games and then focus on some improvisation working towards a short performance at the end.

Mindful Me Workshop (Y3-7)

Morning sessions on: 28 & 29 August
Includes mindfulness based activities, games, relaxation techniques and crafts to promote happiness. Crafts can include making relaxation bottles, dream catchers, gratitude diaries, worry monsters.
